On May 16, 2022, hail up to 3 inches fell near Chesapeake Beach. The National Weather Service reported homes with significant punctures in siding and windows from windblown hail, and shingles take the same beating.

Chesapeake Beach was built as a resort served by the Chesapeake Beach Railway, which ran its first train in June 1900 and its last in 1935.
