While our crew is on the way

What to do in the next hour.

Catch the water. Buckets, towels and a trash can under the worst drip. If a ceiling is bulging, poke a small hole in the center so it drains into a bucket instead of collapsing.

Kill the power to wet areas. If water is near light fixtures, outlets or the electrical panel, switch that circuit off at the breaker.

Move what matters. Furniture, electronics, rugs and paperwork out of the drip zone. Plastic sheeting over anything too heavy to move.

Do not climb up there. A wet roof at night or in wind is how homeowners end up in the ER. Leave the roof to a crew with harnesses and lights.

Take a few pictures. Ceiling, attic and anything that got wet. It takes two minutes and helps later.

Call (301) 909-3383. Tell us where the water is coming in and how fast. That tells us what to load on the truck.

Roof emergencies we handle

If it is letting water in today, we treat it as urgent.

Most urgent call

Tree or limb on the roof

A fallen oak or pine can crack rafters and punch straight through the decking. We cover the opening, secure the area around it and line up the structural repair so the house is dry tonight.
01

Active roof leak

Water dripping through a light fixture or running down a wall needs a cover now and a real diagnosis next. We stop it first, then trace exactly where it entered.
02

Shingles torn off by wind

When a gust strips a section down to the felt or bare wood, the next rain goes straight in. We tarp the bare area and replace the shingles as soon as the weather allows.
03

A patch that let go

A cheap fix from years ago can give out in one hard rain, usually around a vent, a chimney or a valley. We stop the water first, then repair the spot properly instead of adding another layer of sealant.
04

Chimney and skylight leaks

A downpour finds every weak flashing joint around a chimney, skylight or vent pipe. We seal it for tonight and rebuild the flashing properly on the return trip.
Old patch that gave out

Failed repairs from someone else

Caulk, roof cement and a few nails are not a repair. When an old patch fails, we make the roof watertight, then fix the spot correctly so it holds.

Emergency roof tarping

How a proper emergency tarp works.

It covers past the damage. A good tarp runs over the ridge and well beyond the opening on every side, so water cannot run under the edge and into the hole you just covered.

It is fastened with battens. We secure the tarp with lumber strips screwed through, not with sandbags or bricks that slide off the first time the wind picks up.

It is meant to hold for a while. Insurance approvals, materials and weather can take time. A tarp set right keeps the house dry until the permanent repair is scheduled.

It comes off when the fix goes on. We remove it, repair or replace the damaged decking and shingles, and haul everything away. If you are filing a claim, see roof insurance claims.

Why call One Vision in an emergency

When the roof fails at 2 a.m., you need a crew down the road.

Emergencies rarely happen at a convenient time. A big national outfit puts you in a queue and a call center promises someone sometime this week. We are a family-owned crew working out of Baptist Church Road in Mechanicsville, so when your roof gives out, the people who answer are the same people who load the truck.

We cover it first and talk money after the water has stopped. Once things are safe, you get photos of what failed and an itemized price for the permanent repair, with nothing added you did not approve. Every job ends with a magnet sweep of the yard so no nails are left behind for tires or bare feet.

FAQ

Emergency roof repair questions.

Water inside right now? Call us first, read later.

Do you really answer the phone at night?

Yes. Our emergency line runs around the clock whenever water is getting in or wind or a tree has opened the roof. Call (301) 909-3383 and tell whoever answers that water is coming inside.

Anything that is letting water into the house right now or left a hole in the roof: a fallen tree or limb, missing shingles down to bare wood, a leak through a light fixture, or a bulging, wet ceiling. A slow stain that has not moved in months can usually wait for a regular appointment.

A tarp we fasten with battens keeps the house dry while approvals and materials come together. It is still temporary, so we schedule the permanent repair as soon as possible.

Often, yes. Small wind damage, a lifted flashing or a few missing shingles can usually be repaired on the spot. Bigger damage, like broken rafters or a large section of decking, gets tarped first and repaired once the right materials are in hand.

We would rather you did not. Climbing a wet roof in wind or darkness is dangerous, and a tarp held down with bricks usually blows off. Protect the inside of the house, take a few photos and let us handle the roof.

It depends on the damage, how big the opening is and what has to be secured. We stop the water first, then give you an itemized price for the permanent repair before that work starts, so there are no surprises.

Many homeowners policies treat reasonable steps to prevent more damage as part of a covered loss. Keep the receipt and our photos. For the claim itself, see our roof insurance claims page.

Yes. A leak over a store, office or church gets the same urgent response. We cover it so you can stay open, then plan the repair around your hours.

Related services

Once the emergency is handled, the next step depends on what caused it. Wind or hail damage across the roof points to storm damage repair, and if you are filing, our roof insurance claims help keeps the paperwork straight. A leak that keeps coming back needs real roof leak repair. Smaller fixes fall under roof repair, and an old roof that failed outright may be ready for roof replacement.
